Rai-Kirah Trilogy

Jess: Its been a while since I've read these books, but there are a few things I remember. First of all: read these slowly. Towards the end I found myself confused, a product of my ADD. Berg is a master world-builder, but you'll miss a lot if you read too fast, which is too easy in these books. In all of her books her characters are absolutely amazing. These are the kind that you feel each of their emotions fully and completely. The magic in them is totally unique, with parallel worlds and awesome detail. There's only a small amount of romance in these books, but they are completely worth the read. 5/16/05

Bridge of D'Arnath

Jess: The one thing I absolutely love about Carol Berg is that her writing just gets better and better. I picked up Son of Avonar after reading the Rai-kirah Trilogy, which I enjoyed, and found this series to be ten times better (which is saying a lot). Maybe I liked it more because there's a lot more romance in this series, but I found the story and the characters much more enthralling.

This series proved to me that Carol Berg is a masterful writer in every way, I can't emphasize enough just how much I love this series. This is definitely a heart-wrencher, but in a good way, I promise. It was originally supposed to be a trilogy, but Ms. Berg decided that the story couldn't stay where it was (which surprised me, since I was extremely happy with the ending of the third, but who am I to complain?).  I highly recommend you pick up this series. I promise you will not be disappointed. 5/16/05

Daughter Update: Ahh, an emotional end to an emotional series. For those of you with questions about the Bounded, well, you aren't going to get any more info. Sorry there. But if you liked this series, you must pick this up. I am ever impressed with Berg's ability to write consistently well, and this "Daughter" reaffirms that. Gerick is kept very busy with the intriguing D'Sanya, the supposed daughter of D'Arnath (a thousand years dead). Berg weaves a masterful mystery and fantasy while creating characters that you'll forever remember. Jess-9/20/05
