The Cloudmages

Jess: What a waste of my time. After picking up "Holder of Lightning" several times at the bookstore and putting it back, I finally broke down and bought it. First one wasn't so bad, kind of slow, but interesting. The second book had just been released in mass market, so I picked that up right away. Here's where it all starts. The stories were exactly the same. First of all, I spent the whole last book getting to know Jenna, then in the second book Farrell turns her into this flat, evil character. It gets worse- then her daughter Meriel, goes off and does almost the exact same things. Falls in love with a jerk, then realizes the guy right next to her is fabulous, gets the main stone, then becomes queen. Ridiculous.

The third book is out in hardcover, and I could see absolutely no point in checking it out (especially since Farrell decides to kill off both Meriel and Jenna right in the beginning, apparently). No thanks. I know there isn't a whole lot of Celtic fantasy out there, but pretend this series doesn't exist. Its really that bad. 5/23/05
