Witches of Eileanan

Jess: Its been over a year since I read these books, but they still stick out in my mind. Despite the horrible covers (they're just bad), this Celtic fantasy series will keep you entertained for a good period of time. I had some trouble getting into the first book, but I was also on vacation. I then devoured the rest five books in a matter of a week.

Considering the size of this series, you can expect some slow points, and it does happen. But not often, thankfully, and at some places the story is incredibly suspenseful. To me this series falls under "epic" (not something I hand out lightly) because of the imaginative and large worlds Forsyth creates, along with the amount of lovable and interesting characters. I found this series incredibly satisfying, and I hope you do too.  6/24/05

Rhiannon's Ride

Jess: Before anything else, one thing you need to know about this book: read her previous series before even thinking about picking up this book. No, this isn't a tactic to get you to read it. This book refers heavily to Witches of Eileanan, and this story won't be half of what it should be if you haven't read the others. But hey, that also means more fun for us who have read "Witches."

This book was much darker than I remembered her other series being, and 100 times more suspenseful. I just could not put this book down. At one point I actually gasped out loud, something you won't usually catch me doing.

Don't worry, if you think you'll be overwhelmed by action, you won't. Although it has more than most, Forsyth does a good job smoothing it out and prevents it from being jumbled. I was worried she might be taking this series too far, but she smartly focuses this tale on new characters, while the originals take to the background. Now I'm dying for the next book, which will come out god knows when. And best of all, there's a new cover artist (I know, I'm horrible). 6/24/05

NEWS: "The Shining City" is the second book in this series, will be released in mass market in April '06 (currently available in Australia).
