Jess: This is a case of "I've certainly read better but I definitely have read worse." None of the LUNA books that I have read so far are really any kind of breakthrough literature, and "Fairy Godmother" fits in with that. Despite all that, "Fairy Godmother" and most of the other books published by LUNA are fun, quick, and enjoyable, most with a romantic element. This book is less fantasy and more of a play on fairy tales (although it mostly focuses on Cinderella, this book also goes to other fairy tales and what could go wrong with them). At times it is a little too unbelievable; for example, the main hero goes from the snobbiest prince ever to a decent hard-working man in way too short of a time. But since fairy tales generally are a little unbelievable side, this is excusable. Because of its lack of anything glaringly bad and its quick and witty pace, I found this book fairly enjoyable. It fits in with the kind of books where you have a few hours to kill and and you really don't want to get bogged down in intrigue and plots (a la George R. R. Martin). If you've come to like what LUNA has to offer so far, you should enjoy this book. 9/5/05 |
