The Bridei Chronicles Jess: I know that its completely horrible that I haven't read her previous series, "Sevenwaters," but for some reason I just couldn't get into it. I figured I'd give this book a shot at least, and boy am I glad I did. Apparantly there was a serious qualm with her previous series about the generational thing. This won't be a problem in this series, as the main character, Bridei, will be in it throughout. And what a wonderful character he is. At first he seems kind of boring, but he does have human faults. But as calm and intelligent he may be, his companion Tuala more than makes up for in her spirit and behavior. These two meld so perfectly together, which goes along greatly with the legend behind this hisorical character. Marillier brilliantly weaves an incredible world using history, legend, and fairytales. And from what I hear, it is even better than her previous (and incredibly popular) series. 9/1/05 |
