Jess (Stolen Magic): Take my advice, read "Kiss of Fate" first. Although I didn't read it yet, I had finished "Stolen Magic" when I read in the epilogue that two of the characters had their own previous book. When you already know what has happened to the other guys, it kinda kills the story. Oh well. "Stolen Magic" is a little more fantasy than romance, but you'll find it in the romance section nonetheless. Its placed in 18th century England, but doesn't revolve around events at that time but sets a familiar place for the reader. The magic is nothing new, but Putney manages to keep it interesting and flavorful at the same time. A little romance, intrigue, and magic in a well-paced plot make this book and enjoyable read. 6/3/05

Karen (Kiss of Fate): This novel is a romance with fantasy elements so if you prefer fantasy over romance as a genre, beware. That said, let me review. I was not too fond of this book, the first in a series about inherited magic users in Britain during the reign of George II. The characters are from families that pass down their magical abilities through the generations, and most of these families are, of course, members of the aristocracy. This story revolves around the Jacobite rebellion, which is the major source of conflict for the lovers. Gwynne is determined to remain neutral as that is the generations old policy of all those with magical abilities. She meets resistance in this stance from her new husband, Duncan Macrae, a Scot who wavers in his resolve to not help the uprising. The couple starts off fighting badly, fall in love, and then fight some more over the rebellion. All in all, I did not like either character, though the world Putney created is interesting, as is the sequel and it’s hero. 9/1/05
