Jess: I picked this book up, since I had heard very good things about her "Archangel" series (which I haven't read, I know its terrible since I can't get past that whole spaceship thing). Unless her writing has significantly gotten worse since that series was published, I really don't see what the hype is about. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy this book, but it was kind of "blah." The plot was rather predictable, the characters were whiny and boring, and overall I got the sense of "fakeness" while reading this. On the other hand, by the end of the book I was fairly happy, since all the loose ends were tied up and everything was all smiles. I liked it enough that I kept reading and I'll pick up the next in the series. Its a quick read, so I'd suggest holding out until its released in paperback (currently in hardcover). 5/23/05 NEWS: The next book in this series, titled "The Thirteenth House," is due out in hardcover in March 2006. |
